415 HLT Instructions That Are Not Intercepted May Cause System

Hang

Description

In guest mode when VMCB.V_INTR_MASK flag is 1b, the processor may not process host

interrupts if a guest executes a HLT instruction that is not intercepted.

Potential Effect on System

System hang.

Suggested Workaround

Hypervisors should intercept HLT instructions by setting VMCB.Intercept_HLT (offset 00Ch bit 24)

to 1b.
